UHMWPE is extremely resistant to a wide variety of substances. The material
is almost totally inert, therefore it is used in the most corrosive or aggressive
environments at moderate temperatures. Even at high temperatures, it is resistant
to several solvents, except aromatic, halogenated hydrocarbons and strong oxidizing
materials, such as nitric acid. Very high wear resistance, impact resistance, excellent
resistance to internal pressure strength, resistance to environmental stress cracking,
intrinsically self-lubricating, anti-adhesion, low temperature resistance and excellent
chemical resistance. Compatibility tests between a product sample and the chemical
environment are strongly recommended to verify satisfactory part performance, at
the same conditions, for a period of time equal to the life time expected, at each
new application. Even the substances classified with high attack or absorption frequently
show good practical results.

polyaryletherketone (PAEK) family, used in engineering applications. PEEK is a semicrystalline
thermoplastic with excellent mechanical and chemical resistance properties
that are retained to high temperatures. PEEK have very high tensile strength
is 90–100 Mpa. Because of its robustness, PEEK is used to fabricate items used in
demanding applications, including bearings, piston parts, pumps, HPLC columns, compressor
plate valves, and cable insulation. It is one of the few plastics compatible with
ultra-high vacuum applications.

PTFE is commonly known by Du Pont trade name TEFLON. PTFE is characterized
by its outstanding resistance to chemicals and low co-efficient of friction combined
with a very wide working temperature range. Only liquid alkaline metals and some
fluoride compounds can attack PTFE at high pressures and temperatures. Depending
on the temperature and the load, PTFE has a tendency to creep or cold flow. For
this reason, Max Spare does not use pure PTFE for sealing components in hydraulic
systems, with the exception of back ups for O’rings. For the majority of sealing
tasks, only filled PTFE materials are used, reinforced with materials such as Bronze,
Glass, and Graphite & Carbons.
